Because we create the landscape design, we are able to install
plants that thrive in our climate, minimizing water usage and homeowner
maintenance. We use water-permeable surfaces in our common areas as well as
on our parking surfaces to minimize water run off and soil erosion.
Material utilization and recycling practices can have a dramatic
impact on construction waste. This material waste makes up 35 -
40% of total landfill trash. We strive to use materials that have a low level of embodied energy,
such as wood rather than steel. The majority of these materials are available
locally or regionally.
We frame our homes with engineered lumber to conserve raw materials
and reduce waste. We frequently use a structural element as a finished product,
such as concrete floors, saving raw material and energy.
We use wood products from sources that use responsible forest management.
We also use reclaimed hard wood flooring salvaged from old houses. We use lumber
from local trees that have fallen or had to be removed, in a variety of finished
products.
We recycle containers, pallets,
bracing and form materials to minimize construction waste.
